Kids' Drones: Which Are Safe and Survive Crashes — Top 6
Six models from 1,394 to 9,760 UAH: which have enclosed propellers, what protects a drone from crashes and what age they are recommended for. And the main thing before you buy: flying outdoors is banned under martial law, so this is a toy for the home and the gym.

In short
- Safest for indoors: Syma X35T. Its propellers are fully enclosed by a ring-shaped body, and the drone itself is palm-sized (11.9 cm). Price: from 1,394 to 2,499 UAH as of 06.11.2026.
- Smartest among the toys: Syma X26 Pro. It avoids obstacles using infrared sensors, but only at low speed. It weighs 59 g and costs 3,199 UAH.
- The manufacturer and stores recommend all five Syma models on the list for children aged 8 and up. They hold altitude on their own and fly for 7–9 minutes on a single charge (where flight time is stated).
- For a teenager who wants to shoot video: DJI Neo at 9,760 UAH. It weighs 135 g, its propellers are enclosed by protective guards, and it takes off from the palm. But this is a drone with a 4K camera, not a toy.
- Flying outdoors is not allowed right now. Civilian drone flights are banned under martial law, and martial law has been extended until 29 January 2027. A kids' drone is for an apartment, a classroom or a gym.

First, the law: where a child can fly
Martial law and mobilisation have been extended by 90 days, from 31 October 2026 to 29 January 2027 (Laws No. 5029-IX and No. 5030-IX). For this period, restrictions agreed by the State Aviation Service, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and UkSATSE (Ukraerorukh) apply: flights of civilian aircraft, both crewed and uncrewed, are banned until martial law ends. That is how the Rzhyshchiv City Council summarised them.
The Dmytrivka community put it even more bluntly in August 2026: private and amateur flights are completely banned, and violators face a fine of up to 8,500 UAH with confiscation of the equipment. These notices make no separate exception for toy drones. Besides, from a distance a toy in the sky is hard to tell apart from a reconnaissance drone, so a child flying in the yard could end with a call to the police.
That is why we assessed all the models below as indoor drones: for a room, a hallway, a classroom or a gym. For more on flight rules and permits, see our review of camera drones.
What makes a kids' drone safe
The biggest risk with a toy drone is not crashing but propellers spinning near fingers, faces and hair. So we first looked at how well they are enclosed, and only then at the “smart” features.
- Enclosed propellers. For the Syma X35T, the manufacturer describes “fully protected propellers” and a 360° ring-shaped protective body. On the DJI Neo, the propellers are enclosed by guards on all sides (Full-Coverage Propeller Guards). For the other models on the list, the manufacturer does not describe propeller protection, so you need to be more careful with them indoors.
- Propellers stop when jammed. The Syma X26 and X15A have overload protection: if a propeller is knocked or jams in flight, the drone stops the propellers itself. This protects both the motors and the hand that grabbed the drone.
- Altitude hold. All five Syma models have a barometer and hover at the height where the child let go of the stick. Without it, a beginner keeps “dropping” the drone, and that is exactly how the first propellers break.
- One-button takeoff and landing. On the X35T, X26 Pro and X33, the drone takes off and lands smoothly at the press of a single button. The child skips the riskiest seconds of the flight.
- Low speed and Headless mode. The X26 Pro has two speeds. In Headless mode, the drone flies in the direction the stick is pushed, regardless of where its “nose” is pointing. For a child, this is the easiest way not to get confused.
- Obstacle sensors. The X26 has infrared sensors on four sides, and the X26 Pro has an obstacle avoidance mode. The X26 Pro manufacturer is upfront about the limits: they do not work at high speed, the drone detects white and light-coloured objects best, and two such drones should not be flown closer than 5 m to each other, because they blind each other's sensors.
- Low weight. The X26 Pro weighs 59 g, the DJI Neo 135 g. The lighter the drone, the less damage from hitting a wardrobe or a person.
The battery: what parents should know
The toy Syma drones use 3.7 V lithium batteries: from 200 mAh in the small X35T to 700 mAh in the X26 Pro (the X15A has a 400 mAh lithium-ion one). They charge via USB in 40–90 minutes and fly for 7–9 minutes. The X35T, X26 Pro and X33 controllers run on four AAA batteries, which are not included, so buy them together with the drone.
Syma advises charging the battery only with the original cable. We would add: charge it under adult supervision, do not leave it overnight, and not on a bed or sofa. Stop using a battery that has swollen or gets very hot.
What survives crashes
A toy drone will crash; it is part of learning. The ones that survive are those whose body takes the impact and whose parts are easy to replace.
- Ring-shaped body. The manufacturer describes the Syma X35T as a drone made of impact-resistant materials, and says the ring around the propellers extends its service life. The bodies of the X26, X15A and X35T are made of ABS plastic, which the store calls strong and wear-resistant.
- Spare propellers in the box. The X35T, X26 Pro and X33 boxes include four spare blades, and propellers are what most often need replacing after a crash.
- Battery protection. In the Syma X33, the battery sits in a modular protective case that is easy to remove and put back. The X33 arms attach to the body according to the A1/A2/B1/B2 markings; that is how they are assembled out of the box.
- Size. The large X33 (27.8 cm) and X15A (28.9 cm) are more stable in a spacious hall but hit harder. The small X35T (11.9 cm) is safer in a room, though more sensitive to drafts.
From what age, and what should be on the box
Stores sell all five Syma models on the list marked “8+”, and the Polish store Megadron gives the same age for the X26 Pro. For a child aged 8–10, small drones with enclosed propellers (X35T) or obstacle sensors (X26 Pro) are the best fit, and they should fly together with an adult. The large X33 and X15A are for older children and for the gym. The DJI Neo is for a teenager who already flies a drone confidently and wants to film.
In Ukraine, toys must comply with the Technical Regulation on Toy Safety, approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 151 of 28 February 2018. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (Derzhprodspozhyvsluzhba) reminds that all information on a toy must be in Ukrainian. The label, packaging or manual must contain warnings about possible hazards and how to avoid them. If there is no such marking, the toy is probably illegal.

Top 6: which kids' drone to choose
We ranked the models as follows: first enclosed propellers and propeller stop, then crash resistance, then how much the drone helps a beginner (altitude hold, one-button takeoff, sensors). The DJI Neo comes last not because it is worse, but because it is a different class: a camera drone for a teenager at the price of four toys.
1. Syma X35T
The best first drone for indoors. The propellers are enclosed by a ring all the way round, the body is made of impact-resistant plastic, and it is palm-sized. The drone holds altitude, takes off and lands with one button, and lights up in seven lighting modes. The weak points are the small battery (200 mAh, about 7 minutes) and a range of up to 20 m, but that is enough for an apartment. Price: 1,394 UAH at Epicentr (discounted), 2,499 UAH at Moyo and Jabko.
2. Syma X26 Pro
For a child curious about how a drone “sees”. The obstacle avoidance mode works on infrared sensors and only in slow mode, so that is the mode the child should fly in. The drone detects white and light-coloured objects best. It has Headless mode, altitude hold, one-button takeoff and landing, and two speeds. The 700 mAh battery is the largest among the toys on the list. The manufacturer promises about 9 minutes of flight and a 20 m range; Jabko states 11 minutes and 30 m. Weight: 59 g. Price: 3,199 UAH at Jabko.
3. Syma X26
The predecessor of the X26 Pro, with the same infrared sensors on four sides (only at low speed). When a propeller jams, overload protection stops the propellers automatically, and an indicator warns of a low battery. The battery is smaller at 380 mAh, takes about 90 minutes to charge, and the store does not state the flight time. Price: 2,549 UAH at Moyo.
4. Syma X33
A larger drone (27.8 cm) for a gym or classroom. It is more stable in the air and has altitude hold, one-button takeoff and a modular protective battery case. It flies for about 8 minutes with a range of up to 30 m. The manufacturer does not describe propeller protection, so it should not be flown near people. Price: 2,039 UAH at Moyo with a discount (regular price 3,099 UAH).
5. Syma X15A
The largest on the list (28.9 cm), for older children who can already keep a drone in the air. It has altitude hold, Headless mode and overload protection that stops the propellers when they jam. The 400 mAh lithium-ion battery charges in about 80 minutes. It only does 360° flips at higher speeds, so it is better to skip them indoors. Price: 2,472 UAH at Moyo.
6. DJI Neo
Not a toy but a small camera drone: a 1/2-inch sensor, 4K 30 fps video, 22 GB of storage. For safety, it has what most camera drones lack: its propellers are fully enclosed by protective guards, and it takes off from and lands on the palm without a controller (the manufacturer promises at least 20 palm takeoffs on one battery). According to DJI, it flies for about 18 minutes (about 17 with the propeller guards) and weighs 135 g. Price: 9,760 UAH at Justbuy. Keep in mind that DJI suspended its business in Ukraine in April 2022, so ask the store about the warranty.
Prices: what to keep in mind
The toy Syma drones on this list cost from 1,394 to 3,199 UAH as of 06.11.2026. The same model can differ by a thousand hryvnias between stores: Epicentr sold the X35T for 1,394 UAH with a discount, while Moyo and Jabko sold it for 2,499 UAH. So before buying, compare several stores and check whether the model is in stock.
Add AAA batteries for the controller to the price, and if the child wants to fly longer than 7–9 minutes, a spare battery too. If your budget is around 10,000 UAH and the child wants to film, compare the DJI Neo with other camera drones in our separate review.
